The Kiwi Foil Club Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting, developing, and supporting the sport of hydrofoiling across New Zealand. Our mission is to foster a safe, inclusive, and passionate community for water sports enthusiasts—ranging from downwind stand-up paddle foiling and parawinging to wingfoiling, surf foiling, and pump foiling—while championing water safety, skill development, and environmental stewardship of our coastal waters.
The Kiwi Foil Club evolved organically from New Zealand’s vibrant online hydrofoiling community, known as the "Kiwi Foil Froth" group on Facebook. Recognising the rapid growth of foiling sports and the need for proper organisational structure, liability protection, and community representation, our founding members gathered on February 19, 2026, to officially establish the club.
We drafted our formal constitution, elected our inaugural executive committee, and formally incorporated as a society under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 in February 2026.
We exist entirely for the benefit of our members and the wider foiling community by:
Organising Safe Events: Hosting structured downwind races and social events (such as our flagship A2R Army Bay to Hatfields Beach Downwind Derby).
Safety & Training: Developing comprehensive safety management plans, running community clinics, and educating members on gear handling, water etiquette, and safety protocols.
Community Advocacy: Representing local water sports participants in regional discussions—such as engaging with Auckland Council regarding sensible navigation bylaws and fair access for emerging novel water craft.
Building Connection: Maintaining an active, supportive network for paddlers, wingers, and foil-assisters to share knowledge, coordinate sessions, and grow the sport responsibly across Aotearoa.
The club is run democratically by its members, led by an elected Executive Committee:
President: Shaan Miller
Vice President: Jon Begg
Secretary: Matt Cade
Treasurer: Bryce Prestidge
Executive Committee Members: Peter Hanning, Jon McGettigan
