The Kiwi Foil Club Inc. is actively engaged in organizing community events, championing water safety, and advocating for the future of hydrofoiling in New Zealand.
Our primary annual event is the A2R (Army Bay to Red Beach) Downwind Derby, bringing together a massive community of foilers across multiple divisions.
Divisions: We cater to all major disciplines, including Downwind SUP Foiling, Parawinging, Wingfoiling, and Foil-Assist.
Safety First: Every event is run under an Event Operations & Safety Management Plan (SMP), featuring support craft (such as jet skis with rescue sleds) and strict participant safety briefings to ensure everyone gets home safe.
Results & Community: The event successfully connects paddlers from all over New Zealand (from Auckland and Northland to Mount Maunganui and Wellington) for premier downwind runs and shared post-race celebrations.
As a dedicated sports club, we advocate for the rights and safety of emerging water sports enthusiasts:
Navigation Bylaws: We actively represent our members in regional discussions—such as engaging with Auckland Council regarding proposed navigation bylaw changes. Our goal is to ensure sensible, proportionate safety frameworks that recognize foil-assist and novel water craft without imposing overly restrictive blanket bans.
Community Connection: We provide a unified voice for the New Zealand foiling community, bridging the gap between local authorities, industry groups, and everyday riders.
Looking ahead, the club is continually working on:
Expanding our calendar of social events and downwind runs.
Developing educational resources and clinics focused on gear safety, etiquette, and progression for newcomers entering the sport.
